Confidentiality

Confidentiality is of significant importance to psychologists who are professionally bound by the Code of Ethics for psychologists in Canada. Confidential information is not disclosed without client's consent except in certain defined circumstances, referred to as "limits of confidentiality".

Limits of confidentiality:

- Duty to warn if harm to self or others is suspected.

- Obligation to report suspicion of child, elder or animal abuse or neglect.

- Legal requirement to respond to subpoena by a court of law.

- Refer to PHIA

Psychologists are required to keep record of their contact with clients for up to 10 years, after which time they are shredded. Records are securely stored according to the regulations and guidelines for professional psychologists.

Fees/Billing

Fees for private psychological services are recommended by the Provincial Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia (APNS).

Group rates may vary depending on the length and number of sessions. Requested paperwork such as letters/forms/documents prepared on your behalf will be billed at the above rate based on length of time taken. It is expected that fees are paid at the end of each session with the exception of group sessions. (Visa, MasterCard, Debit and Cash are accepted).

Please note that although private services are not covered by MSI, private health insurance plans cover private psychological services. I recommend that you consult your plan regarding coverage as part of your planning process before attending your appointment. Most employee Assistance Programs may also provide coverage of psychological services.

Psychological services may also be claimed as a deductible health expense on your personal income tax.

Cancellation Policy

Please be advised that 24 hrs notice is required for cancellation of appointments. For Monday or long weekend appointments, notification  on the Friday before is required. You will be billed for missed sessions at the APNS recommended rate; however, fees will be waived in cases of serious illness, emergency situations or dangerous winter driving conditions. Please note that missed appointments are not covered by insurers or group plans.
